Behind the Moon By Hsu-Ming Teo

Three school misfits - Justin Cheong, whose parents are Straits Chinese, Tien Ho, half Vietnamese, half African-American, and Nigel "Gibbo" Gibson, an Australian boy - bond for mutual support. As they grow up their friendship is strained when Justin discovers that he is gay and Gibbo becomes infatuated with Tien's mother. They reunite years later on September 6, 1997 to watch the funeral of Princess Diana on television at a "Dead Diana Dinner" that turns out to be more explosive than they dreamed possible.
