About the Book:

Danny The Champion Of The World is a book that revolves around Danny and his father, William. They live in a gypsy caravan where William fixes cars for a living.

Danny has grown up believing that his father is the most wonderful man in the world. When he is nine years old, he finds out that his father has been poaching pheasants from the estate of Mr. Hazell, a greedy, cruel man who threatened Danny many years ago for no reason. Danny learns his father’s secret to poaching pheasants. One day, Danny wakes up early in the morning to find his father missing. He locates him in a pit-trap in Hazell’s Wood, where he fell and broke his ankle. Danny brings William home to be treated. While he is recovering they hear of Hazell’s annual pheasant poaching party, to which Hazell invites the most prestigious of guests, and hatch a mischievous and daring plan to ruin it. They will poach all the pheasant’s from Mr. Hazell’s estate, leaving none for the poaching party.

Will the father-son duo succeed in their ploy for revenge on Mr. Hazell? Will Hazell find out and have William arrested once and for all? This book contains Quentin Blake’s illustrations and Roald Dahl’s signature breezy, fun writing style. Danny The Champion Of The World was published by Penguin UK in 2013.
