Meggie's father Mo has a gift. He is able to read people and things out of the books, but for each item that comes out of a book, another one takes its place. As Meggie learns about her father's ability, she realizes that this unusual power runs in the family. Soon, Meggie finds herself risking everything to rescue her mother, who was pulled into the pages of Inkheart when Meggie was only a child, but does twelve-year-old Meggie stand a chance against the evil lord Capricorn and Inkheart's most vicious villain, the Shadow?
